Meet John Clark

Scenic Hwys is a small, family-owned business located in rural Utah, not too far from some amazing national parks.

I am an author, artist and amateur historian with a passion for tourism history. I also like to think of myself as a “professional tourist,” exploring the scenic highways and byways of America whenever I can get away. Perhaps we will meet along some dusty road on our journey out there, somewhere…

20th Century Graphic Posters

During the mid Twentieth-Century, screen printed posters became a popular method of advertising. The artists who created those prints employed bold colors in simple graphic illustrations that were designed to capture attention. Scenic Hwys posters are reminiscent of these simple, attractive designs.

Recreating the View

Every Scenic Hwys illustration is a carefully researched work of art. Our objective is to not only recreate the natural beauty of each location, but also to bring the history of that place to life.

Our artistic process most often starts with a research trip. We love to be on location.  And so we endeavor to visit and experience every park for ourselves. While there, we take reference photos and document the historic views that travelers would have seen from each park’s most scenic drives. Every illustration is custom-created and meticulously hand-drawn. Even the typography is custom-designed to capture the essence of the place it represents.
